Subject: Immediate Review and Withdrawal of Investment Exposure Across African Markets on Security and Investor-Protection Grounds
Dear President / Distinguished Representatives,
Aura Solution Company Limited writes in its capacity as an international asset and wealth management institution and adviser to clients whose capital is deployed, or considered for deployment, across multiple jurisdictions.
We are writing to formally communicate a decision of significant consequence. Following a serious incident in the Republic of the Congo, during which one of Aura’s senior executives was subjected to a direct death threat in connection with the assessment of investment opportunities, Aura undertook an internal investigation and a broader review of the circumstances surrounding the investment environment.
The matter was documented and brought to the attention of the relevant authorities, including the highest levels of government. However, in Aura’s assessment, the subsequent institutional response did not provide the assurance required to restore confidence. No meaningful apology, explanation or corrective action was communicated to Aura that adequately addressed the seriousness of the threat or the security concerns arising from it.
At the time, Aura was considering an investment framework of exceptional scale, potentially reaching US$25 trillion in future investment capacity and strategic opportunities, subject to due diligence, feasibility, legal and regulatory requirements, risk controls and final approval. For an institution entrusted with substantial private and institutional capital, the safety of its representatives is not a secondary consideration. It is a fundamental condition of responsible investment.
Aura has therefore taken the decision to withdraw its investment support for African markets with immediate effect, including the Republic of the Congo. Existing exposure will be reviewed and, where commercially and legally practicable, withdrawn, while further investment commitments, allocations and capital deployment will cease. This decision is not taken lightly. It follows an investigation and a broader assessment of investor security, institutional accountability and the conditions required for international capital to operate with confidence.
Aura will not place the safety of its executives, the interests of its clients or the integrity of its capital behind the pursuit of opportunity.
We are providing the accompanying PDF for the full statement and supporting context.
The principle is straightforward: capital follows confidence. Confidence requires security, conduct and institutional accountability. Where those foundations are absent, responsible capital cannot proceed.
